About James Harvey
Am I a Designer, or a Developer?
Really, I'm niether and both. I'm a full-circle Web Development Professional, being a Web Designer, a Web Developer (or Programmer, Database Administrator & Designer), SEO Hotshot, IT Guru and Website Security Maven. Some have even called me an E-Commerce Expert. Anything revolving wihtin the spherical nature of a Website, I've been involved with it one way or another.
I've managed the Full Life-Cycle and Q/A process of a Website from inital Concept to Final Launch and maintenance afterwards. This includes Design, JavaScript (AJAX, JQuery, DOM, Form Creation & Validation) and Developmental Scopes (Server-side Prgramming: PHP, ASP, ColdFusion, etc.).
I've managed Search Engine Optimization, keyword research, and on more than an occassion, implemented E-Commerce and Affiliate Marketing Campaigns, Email Campaigns and Banner/Link Exchange Programs.
I've designed websites since 1992, and have been programming them since 1995. I'm fluent in 6 different server-side programming languages, including ColdFusion, PHP, ASP (Classic), .NET, Perl and Python. I've dabbled in others, however those are the ones I run into most, and have the most experience working in and with. On the Front End of things, I've worked with HTML, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript (including it's many varying names: DynamicHTML, AJAX and others).
I've also designed and developed databases in Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and occassionally PostGRESQL. I'm no where near being a DBA, however I have adminstrated Database Servers too.
As a Website Security Maven, I've recognized, and "Healed" or SealedPotential Security Risks, such as remote Scripting attacks, .htaccess attacks and other various forms of Website Hacking. I've also had to secure Webservers (Both *.Nix based and IIS based) to prevent such hacking attempts.
I'm also an advocate of Open-Source Applications, not only for the web, but also for workstations. I also have several projects 'in-the-wild' as they so say, and you can see my OpenSource Coldfusion Projects here on RIAFORGE.com I was also part of the the Adobe Coldfusion 9 Users Beta Testing Group, that got to use and debug ColdFusion 9 before it went into the wild. That was a really enjoyable experience and I hope they invite me back when they start ColdFusion 10.
