About James Harvey

Am I a Designer, or a Developer?

Really, I'm niether and both. I'm 45% Designer, 45% Developer (or Programmer including Database Designer and Administrator), 5% SEO Hot-shot and 5% IT Guru. I've administrated the majority of websites from the initial concept, to the first production launch and subsequent maintenace thereafter.

I've managed Search Engine Optimization, keyword research, and on more than an occassion, implemented E-Commerce and Affiliate Marketing Campaigns, Email Campaigns and Banner/Link Exchange Programs.

I've designed websites since 1992, and have been programming them since 1995. I'm fluent in 6 different server-side programming languages, including ColdFusion, PHP, ASP (Classic), .NET, Perl and Python. I've dabbled in others, however those are the ones I run into most, and have the most experience working in and with. On the Front End of things, I've worked with HTML, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript (including it's many varying names: DynamicHTML, AJAX and others).

I've also designed and developed databases in Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, and occassionally PostGRESQL. I'm no where near being a DBA, however I have adminstrated Database Servers too.

I'm also an advocate of Open-Source Applications, not only for the web, but also for workstations.

I'm an often contributor to easycfm.com, an online ColdFusion website. I've written a number of Tutorials on thier site, many of which are also here on Alteredpixels.net. Some I admit I keep for myself here, but most of my tutorials are interchangable between easycfm.com and alteredpixels.net

As of Recently I've been a contributing author to OpensourceWebMagazine, a magazine that focuses on Open-source Development. I cover such topics as JQuery, SEO, PHP, ColdFusion and Mobile Development. You can read my articles in the first issue here.

I also have several projects 'in-the-wild' as they so say, and you can see my OpenSource Coldfusion Projects here on RIAFORGE.com
